• Transition to Clinical Residency Takes Shared Commitment, Flexibility

  • Faculty and administrators from the SUNY Oswego School of Education and the Syracuse City School District advise others to keep long-term goals in mind and to be persistent but flexible in reaching them—lessons they are learning themselves as their clinical teacher preparation partnership matures. “If you see that value, you are going to work toward it,” says SUNY’s Center for Urban Schools Director Pat Russo. Teacher Jim Gavigan of Fowler High School praises his university partners for being open to feedback and continuous improvement. “Having the ability to acknowledge, understand, embrace, and correct mistakes is very important,” says Curriculum and Instruction Chair Marcia Burrell.
