Connie Sherman, executive director at St. Mary’s Children Center, explains how the focus on the Reggio Emilia philosophy for education was brought into her preschool, one of Butler University’s partnership programs that eventually became part of Butler’s first lab school. Sherman explains the value of applying the Reggio model to serve preschoolers who live in poverty and high-stress environments, offering them the affirming vision of children as capable, creative, and responsible.
