Even a thriving school-university-community partnership can be threatened by challenges—but when partners are committed to tackling problems together over the long run, hurdles can be surmounted more successfully. Leaders of the Long Beach College Promise partner institutions discuss some past and current challenges to their work, from navigating restrictive state policy to identifying appropriate clinical sites, recruiting students into teaching as a career, and even facing complacency among local investors who have come to take the partnership for granted.
