School-university partnerships such as those of Butler University are catalyzed by the mutual understanding and trust built through effective communications. When everyone feels up to date with what’s going on, they can engage more readily in supporting the work, say Indianapolis school leaders Shane O’Day and Greg Nolan. Communications on an individual level are enhanced by practices such as “purposeful pairing” of candidates and mentor teachers, notes Master Practitioner Rick Mitchell, which preservice teacher Kaija Bole says results in a productive match.
