• Yearlong Residency Eases Candidates’ Preparation for edTPA

  • TESOL teacher candidates in the SUNY Oswego School of Education say their yearlong residency program gives them an advantage in completing their performance assessments. Not only do their host teachers lend valuable advice from their past experience with edTPA, but candidates have two semesters of video and lessons to choose from to demonstrate their readiness—rather than the single semester of a typical student teaching placement. Oswego faculty have intensified their focus on preparing candidates to explicitly teach language across content areas and through home/family connections, which has a positive impact on student learning—as well as on edTPA portfolios.
