Fostering Emotional Intelligence in Teacher Preparation

Growing emotionally is an important part of developing into an effective teacher. Yet often the development of teaching dispositions, emotional self-regulation, and positive classroom relations is not directly addressed in teacher preparation programs. This presentation will demonstrate a program for fostering the emotional development of teacher candidates in clinical settings. A special emphasis will be placed on the use of modeling, coaching, and reflection to enhance emotional development.
